Fall Fundraiser

Walk-a-thon

The Walk-a-thon is a fundraising event where all of our Skinner North students come together for a walk/run on a designated course around Stanton Park. It’s an event where our Skinner North families and staff support our students as they raise money for our school and participate in a day of walking, laughter, and shared experiences. Students will run/walk laps to high-energy music while staff and parent volunteers cheer them on and all have fun! Walk-a-thon combines five important skill sets: education, fitness, leadership, community, and fundraising! Students who run the most laps or raise the most money from each grade will earn prizes. Every registered student will receive a free walk-a-thon t-shirt, regardless of fundraising efforts.

2025 Recap

In 2025, 513 individual donors raised $82,942, beating our fundraising goal by $17,942. In total, Skinner North students ran 5,546 laps, an average of nearly 616 laps per grade!

Our students celebrated by taping our principal, Dr. Magnuson, and assistant principal, Mr. Popowich, to the gym wall.

Why do we host a walk-a-thon?

  • Promote Fitness: Promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle by participating in an enjoyable walk/run that benefits both the body and mind.
  • Community Building: The walk-a-thon brings our students together to achieve a common goal. It is a great way to build school spirit and create lasting memories.
  • Support a Good Cause: The walk-a-thon also serves as a fundraising initiative to support Skinner North. Your participation directly contributes to making a positive impact on our community. Last year, we raised over $60,000, with all dollars benefiting directly our great school.
  • The budget provided by CPS is insufficient to support our school’s core curriculum. This year, our fundraising goals will focus on:
    • Repainting the gym
    • Upgrading the school outdoor playground 🎠after years of wear and tear
    • Keeping after-school programs going strong by filling the funding gap
    • School lunch and recess staffing needs
The 2025 Walk-a-thon was hosted on Friday, October 17 and raised $82,942 dollars.
